Hempcrete Cabin   Ingarö

A design and build project in the Stockholm archipelago exploring the possibilities of hempcrete construction. The cabin can sleep up to four people and transforms into a sociable space for daytime use. A deck connects the cabin to the services of the main house.

Hempcrete is made by mixing hemp, lime and water. It is a naturally insulating material, which is breathable, moisture regulating and resistant to mold. In addition, hemp is a fast growing crop that captures carbon and improves soil quality, making it not only an ideal building material for a healthy indoor climate, but also for the environment.

A full scale mock-up was constructed to test the hempcrete mix and its performance in a coastal climate. This wall also provided an opportunity to test interior design ideas and finishes, including treatments for the exposed pinewood frame.
